Steve Swift
I entered the Naval Academy from my hometown of Liverpool, New York (near Syracuse) and served in the Navy for 30 years - seven years on active duty as a submariner, and then the rest of the time as an Intelligence Reservist, including 3 deployments to Afghanistan and the Middle East. I have lived in Tampa, FL since 1995 with my wife Kris and my dogs, including Bode for the past years. In my civilian world, after corporate jobs with American Power Conversion, IKON, and the local power company, I left the corporate world after a couple of mobilizations and deployments and worked at CENTRAL COMMAND J2 (INTELLIGENCE) Directorate as a contractor and then part of Defense Intelligence Agency.
I started running more seriously in 2000 with the first Tampa Bay Marathon and now have run 40+ marathons. Along the way I got into triathlons and have completed over 20+ Half Ironman and 7 Full Ironman races. I figured I would help mentor others, and that led into helping others through formal coaching with certifications in both Run and Triathlon Coaching since 2011. Iām riding to challenge myself; to commemorate our 40th Naval Academy reunion, to raise funds for these great causes, and to honor and support the brotherhood and legacy of the great USNA Class of 1987. All of the organizations we are supporting through this ride are very worthy causes, but I have chosen to focus my fundraising on the USNA Alumni Association and Foundation to give back to the place my Navy journey started.
